South Coast Leisure Times : Winter 2017
34 South Coast www.southcoastleisuretimes.com.au The Milton Theatre has been a key part of the community since it started life as the Milton School of Arts in 1927. Catch a live show at the theatre and enjoy the intimate atmosphere, great sound system and excellent acoustics. Chris Cain (USA), Saturday, June 24, 8pm: Legendary Blues Guitarist Chris Cain’s jazz-tinged, blues-soaked guitar and deep, warm vocals have been described as having the maturity and authenticity of bluesmen like B.B . King & Albert King. His expressive style is the result of a lifetime of study and the relentless pursuit of music mastery. His passion and intensity are a blend of his mother’s Greek ancestry and his father’s soulful black heritage. Cain was raised on stories of his father’s childhood upbringing on Memphis’ Historic Beale Street and attended his first B.B King concert at the tender age of three. Blues music played continuously on the home stereo and family outings were often trips to concerts. Tickets $40. Phone orders call Country Leather, Milton on 4455 3056. Normie Rowe and the Playboys, Friday, July 28, 8pm: Normie Rowe and The Playboys were Australia’s most successful pop stars during the 1960s explosion of pop music in the mid-60s. They produced an extraordinary string of hits that are an important contribution to the soundtrack of the Baby Boomer generation. Que Sera Sera, Shakin’ All Over, It Ain’t Necessarily So, It’s Not Easy and Ooh La La, among them, produced fan and media hysteria unseen before or since for an Australian artist. Following his Army service, Normie turned his hand to television acting (Sons and Daughters), theatre (Les Miserables) and honing his singing skills. His repertoire is drawn from the breadth of an extraordinary performing career and life’s challenges. He is an Australian legend and the consummate entertainer who is constantly on tour. Tickets $49. Phone orders call Country Leather, Milton on 4455 3056. Grigoryan Brothers, Saturday, August 5, 8pm: Undoubtedly Australia’s most celebrated guitar duo, the Grigoryan Brothers have a power, vitality and precision that pushes the boundary of guitar virtuosity to new heights. This performance will feature works from their latest release Songs Without Words. In concert, the Grigoryan Brothers are known for their unique blend of musical genres. Although regarded as Australia’s finest guitar duo performing classical repertoire, the Grigoryan Brothers have also carved out a reputation for expanding their horizons through new arrangements, compositions and commissions. This ambition will be seen again in this performance, as the brothers place classical pieces from the new album alongside modern works which explore jazz, folk and contemporary music. Tickets $40.
