South Coast Leisure Times : Autumn 2017
30 South Coast www.southcoastleisuretimes.com.au Huskisson The vibrant town of Huskisson is just 15 minutes off the Princes Highway, perched on the shores of Jervis Bay. It’s a favourite destination for a day out or a mini break. Overlooking the sparkling waters of the bay, the village offers alfresco cafes and activities such as snorkelling, diving, cycling, swimming, kayaking, golfing and cruising. Autumn is beautiful in Huskisson; the weather is calm and the water is still warm. There are plenty of parklands and playgrounds for the children and shopping for the grown-ups. The fashion boutiques and gift shops offer the best and latest at competitive prices. It’s also a great place to unwind with a spa treatment or massage by the sea, or perhaps a yoga class. The award-winning Jervis Bay Caravan Park is the perfect spot to stay, especially for families. The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum features a world renowned collection of maritime artefacts and navigational and surveying instruments. It exhibits a range of nautical equipment, models, photographs, paintings, drawings and objects relating to the history and heritage of the Jervis Bay area. The Museum is home to the historic Lady Denman ferry and other historic vessels. Max Dupain The Van Dyke Album will be exhibited at the museum opening Saturday, March 4 until Friday, April 21. This stunning photographic exhibition captures the essence of the beach holiday. In 1937, six friends spent a weekend at Culburra Beach. Max Dupain, (1911-1992), his future wife Olive Cotton (1911-2003) Christopher Van Dyke, and Harold Salvage, among the group gave rise to this timeless image by Max Dupain that continues to reflect an image of the Australian lifestyle and beach. The museum is open daily from 10am until 4pm. Head out to Husky Maritime history at museum Huskisson is a great place to fish, swim, shop and walk.
