South Coast Leisure Times : Autumn 2017
22 South Coast www.southcoastleisuretimes.com.au Berry Berry has long been the town of trees, the place people visit on the weekend for the cafes, antique shops and sourdough bread. It’s also a village steeped in history. There’s plenty happening in the boutique town in coming months. The Berry Quilt Show and Challenge for 2017 presented by RedBerry Quilters will be held from Friday, May 5 until Sunday, May 7 from 9am until 4pm each day at the Berry School of Arts on Alexandra Street. The RedBerry Quilt Show Challenge is called the Great Recycling Quilt Challenge. Quilters are challenged to come up with a small project made entirely from scraps and recycled textiles. It’s an opportunity to experiment and have fun. Sunday, May 21 at Berry Showground will feature a tribute to Australia’s motoring heritage, National Motoring Heritage Day. The theme this year features Italian Marques motor vehicles and motorcycles. There will be displays of vintage, historic and classic cars and motorcycles. Meanwhile the following Saturday, May 27 the 11th annual Berry Celtic Festival is on again, featuring the Isle of Man. Starting at 9.30am the grand parade through the streets of Berry will feature distinctive colourful kilts and the pipe bands along with the various Celtic Clans, Scottish terrier dogs, vintage cars and hot rods. At Berry Showground, visitors will see marching of the massed bands with the heavenly sound of the bagpipes reverberating around the grounds. Then a day full of entertainment starts with musical items, pipe bands, Celtic fiddlers, highland dancing, enchanted singing, and lots of Celtic merchandise stalls to view. Big fun coming to Berry Berry Celtic Festival’s grand parade through the streets of the town in May is not to be missed.
