South Coast Leisure Times : Spring 2016
www.southcoastleisuretimes.com.au South Coast 49 To Braidwood A spectacular outdoor airing of the quilts will be held in Braidwood in November. Heritage hangs high Music at Majors Creek There will be so much to see at this year’s Festival of Braidwood on November 26 and 27, including the annual airing of the quilts. Braidwood and district has wonderful produce, shops, galleries, places to eat and stay as well as great festivals such as this. The quilts transform the historic main street into a sea of colour, hanging from heritage balconies showcasing quilting art from around Australia. Activities running on both days include a variety of quilt and textile arts displays and demonstrations, trading tables, fabrics for sale, pop up exhibitions, games and competitions for children, ceramics, photographic competition exhibition, carriage rides and pony rides. There is also a new Chinese display at the museum, cemetery tours from 11am each day, open gardens and tours of the National Trust Historic Bedervale Homestead. See www.visitbraidwood.com.au and www.braidwoodquiltevent.org.au for more. Majors Creek Festival will return on November 11-13 after a successful follow-up to its relaunch in 2014. This year’s program has something for everyone. Headlined by Raised by Eagles, a band that remains unaffected by the smoke and mirrors of music in the postmodern era, and encapsulates the art of storytelling at it’s heartfelt finest, as well as Neil Murray, Lucie Thorne, Harry Hookey, Andrea Kirwin and the Timbers. Majors Creek Festival will take place in a number of venues in and around the Majors Creek Recreation Ground. It has always been known as one of the friendliest small festivals on the eastern seaboard and a place where people enjoy rubbing shoulders with their musical heroes at the bar or in one of the concert venues. Visitors are encouraged to participate in informal sessions and sing-alongs at the bar and at the Majors Creek Hotel. Majors Creek is 16km from Braidwood.
