South Coast Leisure Times : Autum 2016
54 South Coast www.southcoastleisuretimes.com.au Moruya/Tilba Get ready everyone, the countdown is on for this year’s Tilba Easter Festival on Easter Saturday, March 26. It’s a unique festival, with enter tainment and activities to suit all tastes, including town criers, hilarious street games with prizes, live music on four different stages, roaming street performers, a producer’s hall showcasing local produce, market stalls and delicious food. This all happens in the magical setting of Central Tilba’s main street and its 100 year old, colourful weather board buildings. The entire village, and surrounding lush volcanic farmland rolling down to the ocean, has been protected by the National Trust. Beautiful Mt Dromedary or Gulaga - the Mother Mountain towers up 800 metres behind the village, and is widely known for its pristine rain forests and aboriginal sacred sites. Easter Saturday is the one day each year when Bate Street is closed to traffic and open to a huge array of culture and festivities. A modest donation ($10-adults, free entry for kids 2-16) covers all the enter tainment, all day long. There will be stilt walkers, buskers, street theatre and a continuous reptile awareness show. There will be jumping castles, airbrush tattoos and face painting. Don’t forget to try your hand at the new cheese rolling competition, the treacherous egg throwing championship, the bushies boot throwing contest or one of the other many games and activities. There will also be cooking demonstrations for the first time this year by teachers from River Cottage Cooking School.
