South Coast Leisure Times : Autum 2016
www.southcoastleisuretimes.com.au South Coast 9 Art with a story to tell Articles Fine Art Gallery has plenty on show for art lovers. There are spectacular views from the $52 million Sea Cliff Bridge. Illawarra/North of Wollongong The Sea Cliff Bridge has become a major tourist destination since its opening a decade ago. It features two lanes of traffic, a cycleway and walkway. If you’re looking for something active to do, you can walk the 2.4km round trip of the bridge and enjoy the stunning views. It is recommended you check the weather and UV forecast before setting out. The return walk will take about an hour, or allow an hour and a half for slower walkers. Bring something to eat and drink as well as suncream. Some walkers like to take binoculars to use during whale season. Nestled in the fold of the Illawarra escarpment, Stanwell Park is noted for its beaches, bushland and the majesty of Bald Hill. Australia’s pioneer of flight, Lawrence Hargrave, is a former resident of the village and he carried out many of his experiments at Bald Hill and the beach below. The main coastal road, Lawrence Hargrave Drive/Grand Pacific Drive, maintains the link with history and also provides magnificent views of the coast north from Bulli via the Sea Cliff Bridge and winds through many picturesque coastal villages. Don’t miss the Wings Over Illawarra Airshow coming to Wollongong. See page 12 for more details. Bald and the beautiful Million dollar view Articles Fine Art Gallery, owned by John and Frances Vander, is a must-see for the creatively inclined visiting Stanwell Park.
