The meeting is regarded as a Girls Day Out, a name which was particularly fitting in 2012 when female jockeys won all six races. The Braidwood Cup is a non-TAB meeting run on a Saturday in mid-February. In 2016 it will take place on Saturday, February 13. The race meet attracts around 1500 racegoers who enjoy the country hospitality with the feature, apart from the races, the Fashions on the Field. The club runs an efficient bus service from Braidwood to the track. So organise family and friends and stamp mid February in your diary for a visit to Braidwood races. Come once and and you’ll be back again. There’s something for everyone in Braidwood. Not only does Braidwood have a nationally recognised collection of historic 19th century buildings, honoured by the National Trust, the town offers a generous collection of art galleries, artists’ studios, antique shops, specialty shops, cafes and coffee shops with menus to tempt all palates. Community show The 2016 Braidwood Show will be held on Saturday, March 5 at the Braidwood Showground, featuring all the show favourites the community has come to love. The Braidwood Show Society was formed in 1874 by local farmers and graziers and held its first Show on the race course paddock in 1876 to display the livestock, crops and produce of the Braidwood district. A major social occasion in Braidwood, and one of the many rural agricultural shows which highlight country life, the show has been held every year since (with the exception of drought in 1908 and war in 1942). Over the years many improvements have been made to the showgrounds (a few kilometres north of the village), including pavilions for stock and displaying the produce, arts and crafts of Braidwood. Sideshow activities for the kids, and food and beverage stalls make a day out at the Braidwood Show popular for local residents and visitors alike. Livestock displays are a major attraction at the show. Spectators enjoy the racing action at the Braidwood Cup. Aside from the racing, Fashions on the Field is one of the major attractions. 62 South Coast www.southcoastleisuretimes.com.au
